Viral conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis:-

Is inflammation of conjunctiva characterized by conjunctival hyperemia and edema that caused by a virus.

Causative organisms:-

  1. Adenovirus type 8 or 19.
  2. Herpes simplex and entero_virus.
  3. Viral fever.

Clinical picture:-

Symptoms:

  1. Irritation and discomfort.
  2. Watery discharge.
  3. Red eye.

Signs:

  1. Edema and vesicles in the eyelid.
  2. Chemosis,hyperemia, subconjunctival hemorrhage, conjunctival follicles.
  3. Pre_auricular lymphadenopathy.
  4. Punctate keratitis ,dendritic corneal ulcer.

–  viral conjunctivitis is a self limiting disease that resolves within one or two weeks.

treatment by giving antiviral drugs ,like acyclovir eye ointment.
